So, what did everyone get up to on Drive it Day?

I took our 1947 Minx out down our yard in the morning to do some fettling and then in the afternoon as a family we took our big 1937 Hillman into Wells and parked up and had a coffee, loads of people about taking photos and we were inundated by passers by wanting to talk to us about her.

On the way in and way back, about an 8 mile journey each way we spotted many classics out enjoying the sunshine. In no particular order we saw a lovely blue Triumph Vitesse, a grey restored Austin A60 van, a Dellow, 5 Austin Sevens together, 6 Triumph Stag's together, a Hillman Imp, 2 separate Mini Coopers, a Reliant van, a 70s Rolls Royce, a Triumph Spitfire, a GT6.

Altogether a very enjoyable day out.

I had planned on celebrating the end of my TC rebuild with a drive out on 'Drive it Day' but I felt unhappy driving up and down our unadopted (dusty) lane without an air filter.

I should be getting it sorted soon. Wink

(Meanwhile, my Swallow saloon is not feeling very well... having been neglected!!)

I went to a local morning pub meeting, which turned out to be very busy. No real drive, it's only a few miles from home. Must try harder next year.

Took the Volvo to Hangar 42 at Blackpool Airport with local multi mark club on a 20 mile run from Lostock Hall..
In case you havent heard of it, Hangar 42 is the Spitfire Visitor centre that commemorates the various squadrons based there in the war. They have a nice collection of wartime airfield vehicles, and full size replicas of various models of Spitfire, an ME 109 and a Hurricane.
One of the Spits has a fully working cockpit that you can sit in. They hire the various items out as props for TV and films as well as maintaining the museum aspects. Also some fascinating stuff about salvaged items from crash sites in the NW. Worth a visit. Our cars were as diverse as a couple of Citroen Tractions, a Mini Moke and a Corvette.

A short run to the same pub meet as Mike, then a run round the lanes to get the car up to full working temperature and dry the condensation in the exhaust before putting it back to bed again. Those Rover V8 engines don't half kick out some water vapour before they get up to temp. Saw quite a few other classic cars out and about too, particularly 80s and early 90s ones, which was nice.

We spent the morning at a new-to-us car gathering down in Shropshire (see link in other post), then in the pm we went for a trundle around in the Herald.
