I am always suspicious of anything that looks too good to be true; it usually is.!

However, something that has puzzled me is how to determine when something is genuine or not.

For example; two or more sellers of seemingly identical widgets have very different adverts.eg...

1) 2 x widgets for 4 pounds
2) 10x widgets for 3 pounds

Is it likely that seller 1 is offering his widgets at the original price but seller 2 has reduced his profit margin and selling more of them for less?

Or has seller 1 simply purchased a batch of widgets from seller 2 and hopes that a buyer will pay more for them for some reason?

OR could it be that seller 1 is offering genuine widgets but those being sold by seller 2 are fake.?

I am left wondering which of the above to go for?

Just look at their feedback (not their feedback scores, the actual comments) and if they seem legit, just pick whichever offer best suits you. Maybe one of them has the widgets in stock, the other may be drop shipping them from China so can offer them for less money, who knows.

Agree, I always look at feedback before burying on eBay. There may be be many reasons why prices vary; we purchase from Burlen for carburettor parts, we get a trade discount, the way Burlen offer discount is relative to your actual spend, small firms will get as little as 15% large organisation like Moss will get 60%.

A mate of mine has a body repair shop, he was telling me that for a recent repair he required some Ford plastic trim, he could either purchase the official Ford part, or an after market part for half the price, as it was trim he went for the aftermarket part. When it arrived he could see where the Ford logo and part number had been scrubbed off, in other words the firm Ford used to make the part, supply Ford but also sell the same part directly, but as a non original part, the price doubles just because its in an OEM bag!


If one is in the business of selling stuff, would you rather sell 1 unit at 50%margin or 5 units at 10% margin, similar actual profit , but only 20% of the effort for the former!

Talking of ebay feedback, in the last 6 months I have bought 8 items and sold 5 items, I have left feedback in every transaction. But, in return from those 13 transactions I have only been left 2 feedbacks??

Chatting to a dealer at Beaulieu the other day and he said he sells all the time on ebay yet never leaves feedback as no one leaves feedback for him.
