Whilst looking for something around Coniston, Google Earth includes a plane flying over, never seen this before, thinking about it, given the number of planes in the sky it's surprising they don't pop up more often?

It's always seemed strange that Heathrow, for example, has no planes on view in the aerial view. I expect there's something about processing the differences between multiple images, but that doesn't explain why there are vehicles in view on the road.

That is very rare and interesting. Maybe a case for monitoring aircraft who have called a Pan or mayday.

It got me thinking, " where is the camera that takes the picture?" if its on a plane then there has to be some significant separation between the 2 aircraft, or a satellite, in which case its a dam good lens!

I have spent quite a lot of time in this area, there are frequent low level military aircraft, but I can't remember seeing a "low" level commercial aircraft, even if it only took off from Glasgow, it must be at, at least 10,000ft?

I was under the impression that it's satellite imagery, and that Google have their own satellites these days, rather than buying access to others. I don't know if it's really true that proper satellite cameras can read a newspaper on the ground, or whether that's just in spy novels.

They can pick up every detail on the ground which is why they are so useful during wars.
The aircraft making a contrail would have to be fairly high depending on the weather.
