It was 40 years ago today that he died at Coniston while attempting to break the water speed record.

Plan is to restore Bluebird K7:

There was a lot of hoo-haa in 2001 about whether it, and DC, should be left at the bottom of Coniston, but at least it meant he got a proper burial.

Looking forward to seeing the finished restoration of K7!

Yup early in 2001, and dragged out the remains of Bluebird later that year

I do remember seeing them pull Bluebird out, but I never knew that they had found his body. Thanks for the info!

If memory serves me correctly, wasn't there a programme all about the recovery of this Bluebird? I seem to remember it was a fascinating story.

Yep I saw that, did they manage to remove bluebird tottally before the filming ended, can't remember!
