Hi
I am hoping to have my Penny farthing rebuilt in order to ride it through one/all of the parades, if I do I will be dressed in period dress. Whether or not it will happen we will see!!??!!
I have got to make a bike rack to hold a penny farthing for my mini, but am unsure of any legality's of having a huge bike ties to the back of a tiny car? I may have to get a lift off someone although the mini would be quite comical!
Anyone else planning on going to this one?
Cheers

Hi
Have a look at:- http://www.greatorme.btinternet.co.uk/Extravaganza.htm
I have been to see the worlds largest penny farthing made in 1875 today, it has a 7 foot front wheel, it may just become the second largest soon!!
Cheers

Hi
Me and dave were thinking the biggest we could make would be about 12 foot, but I think it may be a challenge to make a 8 footer sometime?!
Only dodgy bit is I dont think you will be allowed any chain mehanisms to drive the wheel so to reach the pedals I will have to strap my feet to blocks of wood and them to the pedals, makes getting of rather dificult!
Cheers

if you can't use a chain drive in order to pedal it, how about a series of gears in some way? would that still be classed as a P-F ?

I am not sure, you may be able to use mechanisms, but have a feeling it must be direct drive. I will have to email the worl record place, but the record was set in 1875 or simmilar and has not been broken since!
Think I should concentrate on the standard one first!
Cheers

I had a look at Buzzys link to this event. It does look interesting.
How many people would be up for an OCC forum meet there?

Well, I am planning a trip to the UK myself around that time. There are a couple of people that I must meet when I am over, which might scupper my plans, but hey, why not?
Anyone else? |

Maybe, I've not bought any mags lately with the show diaries in them. I've not made it for a few years, so I'm wondering if it clashes with something else I go to .. will report back
