Hi O/N, the unidentified US car looks like a 39 or 40 Oldsmobile Aussie bodied 2 door sedan, usually called a "sloper" but officially called a Coupe by the manufacturer. The buildings were generally called Nissan huts, don't know why, but they were once fairly common, now you only see them occasionally in the countryside. For anyone that's not familiar with the 48/215's, they are from our local car company, Holden, and are the first of the series introduced in 48, running until 53 when the next model (FJ) was introduced. Holdens are a GM subsidiary that formerly built bodies for the local market and assembled GM's products here, the Olds sloper is one of the Holden designs and built nowhere else but here. Rick's Bedford Utes are Holden designs too. Hope this helps a little, cheers, Col.

Though they are often called Nissan or Nissin huts, the correct term is Nissen Hut. They took their name from a British Mining Engineer, Peter N Nissen, who invented them around 1916.

In the US, they were sometimes called Quonset Huts. Another name (later development though) in the UK was Romney Hut.

Hi

I was about to ask what the real name for these sheds were, they are scattered around mainly at MOD bases or Ex MOD bases, think they are fantastic sheds!!

Cheers
