That could be turned into a very smart wee camper - the conversion looks very nice, good shape and proportions. |

It's a little too square and boxy for my tastes, but it got me thinking what a tear-drop conversion would look like
There used to be a Minor camper conversion round my way (Walsall), a liitle smoother but more top-heavy, but I haven't seen it for a year or two. I wonder what happened to it? |

Wonder how many Moggy campers there are about. I've seen three that I can remember over the last ten years or so, including the blue one in thge original post. Wouldnt mind one myself and have been seriously thinking about building one. Had in mind a sort of compromise, between boxy and roomy and more of a stylish tear drop shape, but still big enough to use....
Got to the stage of buying a chassis cab, and scrapping a miserable '70s caravan to save all useful bits such as door, windows etc, and a pile of sketches!
Anyone any ideas on construction? Had in mind 1" sq thin wall box section for the frame. Ally panelled on the outside, insulation of some sort in the middle and thin ply on the inside. Steel framework would be easy to make, (Can even roll box section a bit for nice curvy lines) but a little concerned about weight.

| this is what i have in mind for my econoline; a basic sleeper box instead of the cramped carryall body it has now. since it's rated as a 1/2 ton truck i can delete the weight of the body removed in adding new structure to it. not looking for grand hotel accomodation, just a weather tight, cozy spot to nap when traveling instead of spending motel money. |

Hi
I like this idea, having something basic, but warm to stop if you get tired, and have a nap! I really like the idea of carrying a bed around with me, I could even have an afternoon nap!
Could you do something with fibreglass, I like using fibreglass for some reason, but not when you are using it on cars, I like creating something with it from scratch?
Cheers

I have got a long wheelbase landy, a Series 1 with a wierd home made box van body on it. And I have used it to sleep in when I had a stall at Beaulieu one year. Problem is it invariably has oily smelly car bits in the back and wouldnt obviously make a nice place to sleep, unless you want to dream about engines and wake up feeling a bit nauseous.... Plan B was to get a caravan to tow behind it, (which we did - a 1960 Carcruiser, that is STILL being rerstored) but still fancy a smaller dedicated camper. I know - never satisfied.... |

another popular trick over here (for certain parties; takes some guts to drive one) is to convert a proper hearse to transporting more lively cargo. hearses are heavily built and do get retired very quickly in the funeral trade. must be something to do with appearances? cor, once i'm dead i could care less how i get to the crematory....
many bikers use them to travel to and from runs to better keep their bikes safe (at least that's what they tell me; i think the chrome skulls etc speak the rest) |
