Rick, I think that as part of your education, you are going to have to watch that film....and according to tradition, there is only one place to do so! I guarantee that it will be the most memorable cinema visit you have ever made! If the cinema still shows it, that is!

So Rick, to start the first part of your education.
Take Erin over to the Isle of Man during TT fortnight. Go to the Manx Museum Film Theatre, and watch the film. Note that it is ticket only, as it is always fully booked...then feel a complete idiot when you realise that you are the only one in the audience that doesnt know the script.....

To quote George, very loosely:
I'm leaning on a lamp, maybe you think, I look a tramp,
Or you may think I'm hanging 'round to steal a car.
But no I'm not a crook, And if you think, that's what I look,
I'll tell you why I'm here, And what my motives are.
I'm leaning on a lamp-post at the corner of the street,
In case a certain classic motor comes by.
Oh me, oh my, I hope that little classic comes by.
I don't know if she'll be seen today, She doesn't always get away,
But anyhow I know that she'll try.
Oh me, oh my, I hope the little classic comes by,
There's no other car I would wait for, But this one I'd break any date
for,
I won't have to ask what she's late for, She wouldn't get a flat,
She's not a car like that.
Oh, she's absolutely wonderful, and marvellous and beautiful.
And anyone can understand why,
I'm leaning on a lamp-post at the corner of the street
In case a certain little classic passes by.
Is this the forums first poem?

[quote="Uncle Joe"]I wonder if its just me reminiscing or something, but are there any others out there that watch old films and TV programmes just to see the cars of that period in their original condition?
It's not just you, you're not alone,I love watching the old Films, especially the Black & White ones, the background Scenery is fascinating.
The good thing is,you can usually pick up the DVD's quite cheap. Here's a few on my list: Carry-On Films
Norman Wisdom
The Fast Lady
Hell Drivers
Wrong Arm of the Law
The League of Gentlemen
I'm alright Jack |

Talking of George Formby...
Trivia Fact:
One of his most popular films is No Limit and is shown every year in the Isle of Man TT week. George rides a 'Shuttleworth Snap' in the film.
The 'Shuttleworth Snap' was actually a disguised 1928 AJS - the 'Rainbow' was a disguised Ariel Red Hunter.
In real life Formby owned a Norton International 500cc OHC single sports model, one of the most desirable machines of the day. |
