This is really a spin-off from the 20/50 topic.

Which oil brand does everyone prefer?

Years ago, for me it was Shell. Then, Duckhams Q20/50 arrived - is it still green? After moving here, things changed, (no Duckhams) and Quaker State was the one to use. Nowadays, it tends to be Castrol in bikes, Valvoline synthetic in modern cars or Valvoline synthetic blend in everything else.

For me it used to be Duckhams in the '70's when it was a readily available alternative to Castrol but it somehow became harder to find so I changed to Castrol.

I still use Castrol GTX or Magnetec but have to use Halfords 20/50 in the Classics as it is the one most easily obtainable in my area.

I use Castrol, and sometimes Valvoline.

Theres a definate trend beginning to show here...or am I wrong?

Does anyone else, apart from me use Castrol R as an upper cylinder lubricant?

I seem to recall that Duckhams was taken over by Castrol some years ago.

I run a 1936 Morris Ten, Penrite oil seems to suit my car best.

Penrite is sold here as well, but it has a really bad reputation, and I mean REALLY bad.....

Check their recommendation table, and you will find mistakes as to the oil grades that they recommend....in the one case I just looked at, I know that their recommendation will cause failure due to seizure!
