As ON pointed out, the decent weather is upon us (at least in the UK, for now...), so what places do we think are worth a day trip out??

I've not been for 5 years, but Brooklands is one I'd be nominating. Really interesting place. Since bought by Mercedes Benz and some large developments have taken place I'm told .. these pics were in 2002:

I'd like to recommend the Ipswich Transport Musuem.

It has everything from fire engines to buses, from horse drawn carriages to commerical trucks, just as long as it was either made or used in Ipswich.

Have a look at their website! www.ipswichtransportmuseum.co.uk

A good place to visit, in spite of the fact that it has nothing much to do with cars, (just engineering) is the Trencherfield Mill steam engine at Wigan Pier, along with the pier itself.....! Cool

Me neither! Sad

We do have a new museum that will open soon about 20 miles west of us that includes a few vintage cars and other artifacts.
A few of us plan to cruise over there this summer.

Brooklands will definitely be worth a visit this Saturday, it's the annual Italian Car Day, with parking on and around the banking for Italian cars only.

Otherwise one of my favourites is the Coventry Tranport Museum, this covers the history of motoring and the Coventry motor industry as well as the displays of vehicles. And it's free Smile

Stuchamp, why dont you head east sometime and visit this side of the pond? We do have a good US car scene here, you know.

Hi

I will have to get some days out sorted!

I think Blists hill is a real good place, I am back in the correct period, it is like going home!

This is also a working museum down south that has a large engineering workshop driven from a huge lineshaft, motor driven just now, or was last time I looked on the net, but soon to be engine driven, would love to go, will have to find the name and post it here!

I have been told, if I go to book in advance so I can have a special guide to talk to! hehe

Cheers

Buzzy, you dont need to go down south to see a line shaft. As Fred dibnah pointed out in a documentary a few years ago, the one at the pier is so long, you can watch it start to turn at one end, then move you eyes to the other, which starts a split second later.....

Does this sound like I am promoting a certain towns tourist industry?
