I was involved with a garage in the mid-1980's that went this route of fitting body kits to customers cars - and what a nightmare they were!
Our owner wanted us to specialise in the "upper end" of the market, so we had to develop the full package. This meant the kit, the paint, the wheels, the graphics, with interior and engine upgrades if required. I remember we specialised in two expensive companies products - Lorinser for Mercedes and Kat for cars like the Rover SD1.
Remarkably I discovered years later that we getting ripped off by the supplier of the Lorinsor kits as they were copies of the originals - which goes a long way to explaining why we had to spend hours and hours getting the things to fit properly, no wonder we gave the kits up, in the end up we were spending more than we were earning.
I've got pictures somewhere of some of the more run of the mill jobs we did, sadly I don't think I have pictures of the expensive ones, but I'll have a look later this weekend. |
