Dire warning to anyone buying a secondhand trailer... I decided the move the winch post on my recently purchased boat trailer in order to balance the boat more accurately, it was held on by two 'U' bolts, the 'U' bolts I discovered were held on by one, or two threads.
See photo: this was all there was preventing 3/4 of a ton of boat coming through the rear window of my car, and the previous owner used it for 6 years!!!

The time has come; emergency services and age concern have been alerted, south cones have been hoisted (whatever that may mean) and there is an air of anticipation around Herne Bay rivalling the time that Barnes Wallace's Bouncing bomb was tested here. The occasion? Nothing less than tomorrows 4th voyage of the "good ship" sea breezes.

If you don't hear from me again you will know it went badly.

Thanks, Dave and Rick.

My usual geriatric shipmate has made some weak excuse about having to paint the ceiling and his memsahib sounded positively hostile when I phoned, so I will be taking my 13 year-old grandson (Jim lad) instead.

Captains log. Stardate 1/8/07, 4th voyage of the "good ship" Sea Breezes.
As I mentioned, a new crew had to be sworn in and that consisted of my 13 year-old grandson James and his father (along to make sure I didn't use him as bait).
I think that the voyage could almost be termed a success as young James caught the only fish of the trip, his first ever. See picture of James shortly before leaning over the side of the boat an shouting for "Ralph"... The sea had again defied the weather forcasters and James attack of the old mal-de-mer gave us an excuse to head for port.
The only bite I had today was from the bait; an irritable ragworm hung on the my finger when I tried to impale him on a hook. They don't arf nip.

Successful, in that we launched, fished and berthed without injury, trauma soakings, or providing the local populace with entertainment. We will have to work a little more on the fishing aspect. One thing at a time.

The rain is lashing down, the wind blowing a gale, it's cold and 'the sun has got it's hat on' and left the galaxy.

I look out of my window at the "good ship" Sea breezes and think: I could have spent the money on a rusty old car and had far more fun.

Planned 4th voyage of the "good" ship Sea Breezes yesterday. Reasoned if I could get ready, there was just enough time get a couple of hours fishing in before dark. The memsahib had offered to crew for me as the sea was 'flat calm'.

Found the outboard clamp bolts had been loosened; some unspeakable scroat had been in my garden trying to steal it, and but for the extra bolts holding it on, he would have succeeded.

While struggling to load the boat, some friends turned up and casually enquired if I had had my free flu' jab yet?

Oh S***! The computer had been reminding me all week and I had just ten minutes to get down to the surgery... nowhere to park--trot a long way--have the jab-- trot a long way back to the car.

I was too knackered to go fishing this time, and come the spring there may be a fully equipped small boat going on ebay.

hehe buzzy and I were only discussing accounts of your fishing trips the other day

could this be the end of your sea-faring days, or do you plan to purchase a larger vessel?
