Erindoors and I drove down to Gaydon in Warwickshire for the classic commercial 'do'. Weather was fab, and as expected a brilliant turn-out of old lorries glistening in the sunshine. Below a selection of pics from the event, photos of E83Ws will be put in that category Smile

The maroon and black Model A recovery truck was for sale at £9500, very nice if needing a little TLC

One thing that always amazes me is how much alike the Dodges are to the old Leyland Comet. If I remember correctly, the cabs were made by the same company...boy did he save money on tooling! Very Happy

Hi Rick, nice pics, looks like a good turn out. Can you tell me a little about the Pilot Pickups, we only had the saloons here, I had no idea they existed, Thanks, Col.

As far as I know the Pilot pickups are factory vehicles, although whether they were sold new in the UK, or perhaps sold to and then imported back from NZ, I couldn't say for sure. They make for a great looking pickup though!!! a van was also built, and is equally rare. There was one at this show in 2004:

Thanks Rick, I like that van, what a gem!. Are you saying the Pickups were built in NZ and not in the UK, or have I got it ass about? Smile , regards, Col.

to be honest I'm not sure, I do wonder if perhaps the chassis/cabs were exported and bodied locally in NZ or Aus as pickups, and a few found their way back to the UK, or they may just have been a Ford factory build in the UK, and not many sold!!! if I get time I'll have a look in some books, see if I can find more info Smile

Thanks Rick, don't think they were bodied here, we would have some if they were. The available info suggests that the Pilots were imported as complete cars, but details are a little sketchy so who knows for sure, cheers, Col.

I'm sure one of the London evening newspapers used Pilot vans for deliveries, although I don't know whether they were factory models or the bodywork was specially built for that job. I wonder if any of those in the pictures started life that way?
