About a month ago I aquired a 1971 2-Berth Cygnet caravan. This was in exceptional condition for its age and required very minor restoration work. It had originally been bought by a couple who apparently wanted to try out caravanning. They went on their first trip in it, decided they didn't like it and sold it to a couple from High Ercall in Shropshire. When the wife died about 20 years ago, the caravan was parked up on the drive and that was the last time it was used. We rescued it last month and have fallen in love with it. We call it the Pod as it resembles the containers used with Thunderbird 2!
It is an add-on project as I am also restoring my 1955 Land Rover which will become the tow vehicle.
The main query is where I can get odd spares for the van and a paint number for the metallic bronze body section on it. I would also like to get hold of copies or scans of the advertising material for it so that I can make a nice display board for it. |

Hi
Welcome from me!
Do you have any pictures of your caravan, and any pics and details of your landy resto?
Cheers

Hi Brickmaker
Sounds like a great find. I have 40 pics of Stirlings but none are labelled a Cygnet so to repeat Buzzy's request - can we see some pics.
Getting hold of bits for classic caravans is a problem. Especially parts that are specific to your make and model (windows, panels, badges etc).
Bits for appliances, water system, brakes etc are a bit easier as these were often common to several makes.
This site has a comprehensive list of caravan breakers, but most of them are for more modern caravans:

I have used Hawkesbury for bits for my Safari, they specialise in older caravans and if they have a model like yours they will remove any parts you need, and charge reasonable prices.

I have broken two Safaris and have a garage loft full of spares most of which are specific to the make, but catches and brackets and accessories may be common. |
