The variety of emails that slip down the phone line never ceases to amaze, and many are similar in nature to ones that have come before, but this is the first time I've received this request for information:
------------------------
Hi
I'm a funeral director in Manchester/North Cheshire.
how would i find nice vintage lorry owners that might
be interested in hiring their vehicles for funerals?
Many thanks,
-------------------------
I've read about someone else offering this service with their old lorry, decorating their flatbed with the usual flowers etc along with the deceased. I suggested contacting some of the old lorry magazines, and perhaps attending a show or two. If anyone has such a lorry and lives in this area, let me know and I'll forward your details!
cheers, Rick _________________ Rick - Admin

I know of one firm that uses a motorbike and sidecar as a hearse, all in black with the sidecar long enough to take the coffin! |

I have written and sent photographs on several occasions about our late, great 'Local Hero' Monty Mason.
On my way to his funeral last year there was a traffic hold-up ahead and it turned out to be a 1950s (ex-Canterbury Corporation) flat-bed truck; on getting closer we saw that it had Monty's coffin strapped down on the back....
Before the cremation service a friend placed an old buff log-book on to the coffin and the music from 'The Italian Job' played as we filed out after the ceremony. A great way to go. So yes, there is a demand for such vehicles for funerals and it has prompted me to speculate as to how my coffin could be fastened to an Austin 7 special.
