Someone in the States dropped me a line asking about a value for their car, I've no idea really - does anyone have any idea on this??
----------------------------------
Hi, I am trying to get an idea about how much to sell my car for, it is
an 1966 chevelle malibu convertible, it has a stock 275hp 327 engine and
2 speed power glide transmission from a 1967 chevelle, I rebuilt the
engine with all stock GM parts, there is about 25k miles on the rebuilt
engine.
It has the SS hood, the tires have less then 2k miles on them,
the body is straight but has one rust spot under the hood, the paint has
a scratch in the hood and the clear coat is peeling on both rear
fenders, the convertible top has mildew inside, it does not leak (looks
ok from the outside) but should be replaced. The interior is cloth and
the front seats are very worn but no holes. I have a clean, clear title.
This car is by no means in showroom condition but it runs and drives
great ... The biggest problem I'm having finding prices is that there are
very few of the convertibles for sale and the ones that are either need
complete restoration or are in mint condition nothing in between like
mine. Thank you for any help you can give me. _________________ Rick - Admin

Impossible to say without actually seeing the car.
His best bet would be to find an appraiser in his area to get a value.
Or to get a rough estimate he can try here........

We all know that the "value" of anything is the price a reasonable person would pay for it. In the states, many cars have sold above their actual "value" due to un-informed, or un-reasonable people buying into the hobby as investments.
I myself have been un-reasonable, and paid very high prices for some of my radiator caps.
As for classic cars, there is the NADA Guides. (National Auto Dealer`s Association)
They have them for recreational vehicles, boats, autos, trucks, and there is one for classic cars as well.
The guides give a basic range of values from low to high, depending on how the vehicle is equipped, and the condition it is in.
Keeping in mind, this is only a guide, and any particular vehicle may sell well above, or below, what is listed there. Other factors, such as region of the country affect prices too. If I sold one of my cars in Florida, I could expect to get much less than if I transported it up north, and sold it there.
