I was wondering about the effects of flooding in the UK on people's garage contents Shocked lots of old cars are bound to have been flooded out, will insurance help people out?? how will the cars be recommissioned? mention of the flooding in this post, about Morris 8 parts for sale (http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=11939) prompted me to post this question here!

Hi

When the Weaver was very high a few weeks or a month ago, my pickup was about 6" away from being in water!

Cheers

Hi

Hopefully if it happens again, I will be in a position to drive it out to safety!

Cheers

Many if not most UK contents insurance policies specifically exclude vehicle components from any sort of cover, which if like me you tend to pile up spares can be a problem!

I have all my cars insured some like the MGA and Morris 8 are on a laid up policy, which gives you cover for dismantled, spares.

Worth checking your home contents policies

good point ukdave!

I guess if buying a car from that area, it'd be worth checking to make sure its not been under 8ft of water, tricky if its something being sold on ebay for instance....is anyone on here affected by the flooding in that area?

I'm in Surrey and we had localised flooding last Friday, I was sitting here at work seeing pictures of the road next to mine under water wondering if my house was okay, eeekk!!

Got home and the garden was under water but only just, the house is dry becuase the garden is about 3ft lower than the house. SOme people I work with were nto so lucky and had some water into their houses.

Do you have a shed/garage, was that ok?

Hi Dave

yes I have double garage at the bottom on the garden, it got fairly wet but luckily it is totally empty, not a thing in it - nothing. My shed which on the other hand is full to bursting is raised about 2ft off the ground on the concrete plinth, so remained dry thank god.

Garden is now dry, well no surface water at least and praying that any further rain we have is drizzle and not torrential

Thanks for the concern

Well Norfolk, I am glad that nothing got damaged, but an empty double garage?....how dissappointing! Laughing

I knew someone would say about an empty garage and yes I totally agree, but in time it will be filled with someting tasty.

dont want to buy just any old car, was thinking on the lines of soemthing 2 seater'ish, soft top maybe... austin metropolitan?? The thoughts change weekley when ever I look at practical classics mag I get a yearn for something different.

how is a girl expected to make her mind up...

Norfolk, what other cars have you been thinking about? Is it just open two seaters or?

UJ,

As this would be a second car to my Vauxhall Zafira (which as a lone parent with 2 kids I need an MPV) a convertible would be lovely, but then nothing is set in stone. its got to be something which pleases my eye. Something which is 'fun' to drive. I like cars to turn heads, but most classics do that anyway. i'm open to suggestions but I am realistic that any second car will be a few years off, and has to be a modest budget too. Not into MGB's Triumphs and such like though.

I think I'm weird in my taste's/ Lotus cortina would be great but dont have that sort of money, so where does that fit into my taste bracket I dont know!!!

If you have weird tastes, then you fit in quite well on this forum....

It is true what you say though, most classics do turn heads. I suppose that why some of us drive them...

As I said previously, why not start a thread telling us about the kind of cars that you like / could think of buying in the future?
