Have a last got a awning to fit the Fawn, now as this is our first touring caravan and first awning, what is the easiest way to put it up with out getting too much ear ache from him with the loud voice as I am not doing it right?

An observation from your photos - does your awning rail not continue to the bottom of your Fawn at the rear end? I can't see the front as it is hidden by the bush.

The rail on my Safari stops about 3 feet from the ground at both ends.

As to putting it up - my method is as follows and was copied from a modern caravan owner I watched one evening on site. I travel solo and can do it by myself but a helper is invaluable to hold poles in place!

First get all the poles organised, join the straight bits together with the corner brackets in place on one piece only. Lay them out about 6 feet away from the caravan. Make sure your doors are zipped shut.

Next thread the beading on the awning all the way through the awning rail, making sure you have it the right way round. It is embarassing to have your awning inside out!

Then get one front corner pole into the fixings in the awning and connect the horizontal pole to the top and rest it against the side of the caravan. Then put the front ridge poles into the awning and put the middle horizontal in followed by the rear corner pole and rear horizontal.

At this point your awning walls will probably finish about 3-4 feet off the ground. Fix your guy ropes to pull the roof flat, before you pull the walls down, you can adjust the position of the feet as you pull the walls down.

Finally peg the feet, attach the valance to the side of the caravan, and put your groundsheet on top of the waterproof bottom fringes of the awning.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Brian nice to have a bit of feedback on this but where you say you are on your own doing the awning the chocolate fireguard moaning about the loud voice means I am near as damn it on my own . Chocolate fireguard or not wouldn't be without her .

Jayne the best way to stop the loud moaning from Si is to gag him or send him off to walk the dogs or send him off to the shops to get some more beer/wine/cigars/sweets etc. Or tell him that you've seen a V8 Sceptre parked around the corner that needs investigating. Wink

Failing that, tell if him he doesn't stop the moaning that I will sort him out at the next pub meet. Laughing

hi Brian, the rail does go all the way round but the way the awning is made it only fits into the first foot or so of the rail then you peg it down against the side of the caravan, speaking to club members the problem we would have had with a modern awning is that they are made for square caravans not ones with curvey bits Wink

the chocolate fire guard (but a least i now know he does like me)
