Hi

BMW have brought out a new Version called the Clubman, they seem to have the standard front end but just be a little longer in the wheelbase, so surely it should be called an Estate?

I am non to keen on these BmW minis at the best of time, why they can't be orriginal in there own right I am non to sure, I was a little disapointed to find they have brought out a Mini Sidewalk!

Seems a bit of a cheat to me, but there you go!

Anyone got any views?

Cheers

Haven't seen the new Clubbie so can't comment on that one, the BMW Minis are ok in their own right, but are way too big to be a Mini (perhaps they should have called it the Maxi instead Shocked )

Definitely not a Clubman, that was the longer bonnet version and surely it didn't necessarily have an Estate body.

Or a Countryman or a Traveller.
Didn't BLMC use both names for the Mini Estate?
Did it depend on whether it was a woodie or a tinnie?

Yeah they were all estates.

The owners that I have met that are into the mini scene that attend in a new mini all seem up them selves, one once even said, "you only have a classic mini as you can't aford one like mine", maybe I have just not met any nice owners yet.

I admit like you say they seem to be a good car, but they also have coppied to much from the old minis now.

Ah well, only my oppinions!

Cheers

Hi

I have an oppinion, that it looks much better on the estates than the saloons, more balanced, hence me having an estate, but there you go, thats what I think! I do seem to remember that the originally designed clubman saloon had a different backend, but due to cost issued it was glued to the backend of an original round fronted mini.

Cheers

I prefer the look of the original Min, but like you say, Clubbie estate or Clubbie saloon, the longer estate does look better to me.

I am biased too though, I learnt to drive (20 years ago exactly Shocked ) on Mum's tuned Mini estate ... the Turbo badge wasn't my idea either Rolling Eyes Smile

yeah u're right there buzzy, it should have had a different rear end but because of cost they only glued the front and kept the same rear end!!

To reply to penman the treveller was the Morris badged car whether with wood or not did not make difference in the name and same goes to the Austin countryman!!

yup 1987, it had a tweaked 1100 engine in it. It was sold to a friend of dad's but it was smashed up, possibly into a tree Crying or Very sad

I remember dad cutting the hole in the roof to fit that sunroof - back then it was just an old Mini and not really very classic, so crimes like this didn't matter so much then Smile

I cant make it out in the pic, was the roof smooth or ribbed?
if it was smooth it makes it very rare!!
only the early ones had a smooth roof

naa it had the ribbed roof, and its fair share of rusty/filler bits too when you got in close. From memory the rear side window channels were quite rusty by the time we sold it on. Great fun to drive though Smile
