Hi

This photo appears in the Mystery Cars section. Someone suggested it might be a Minx Magnificent, prior to the adoption of the name Husky for their estate cars. Can anyone confirm this??

cheers
Rick

Judging by the number plate, this is an Australian or New Zealand vehicle. As such,I would say it is a locally coachbuilt version, rather than the factory job.
My brother had a factory one for his cake shop deliveries.Talk about roll Surprised .
In NZ,these were just called"estate".not Husky.

great old photos Pete! would it be ok to add them to this page on the main site, that already has a couple of similarly-aged Hillmans on it?

Hi
Here is a selection of ads and a photo of different date Minxes, you can see the differences in the grills according to age.
1949

1951 But this is a Model so don't be mislead by the price,

1950

1952

Yes no problem Rick, i think the grille must have been changed on the later model, i reckon my father's Minx would have been a mid 50's model.

As far as I can remember, the Minx models were:
1949 - 1952 side-valve, horizontal bar grille
1953 - 1954 side-valve oval grille
1954 - 1956 ohv grille with bar across (as yours pacresta)

The estate was based on the Commer Express Delivery Van, although with a mere 37 bhp I don't think deliveries would have been very express Sad
I've got a handbook for the 1953 model EDV in front of me. Unfortunately I haven't got a scanner to show it, but it is the oval grille sv one and is called the Mark VII, so I don't when they started counting Smile
