Hi
Does anyone know for sure where the Yorkshire Car Collection is NOW?
I have found a web ref to it still being in Keighley:
Quote: | Yorkshire Car Collection
Grange Street, Keighley, West Yorkshire BD20 7BW
Ph: +44 (01535) 636 683
Opens: 10am-5pm daily, Easter to 31 October, plus weekends all year.
Cars collected largely by the late industrialist Peter Black, and now crammed into a delightful labryinth packed with memorabilia, paintings, components and even a steam organ. Plenty of oddballs, lots of earlier cars etc |
and have also found:
Quote: | Hornsea Freeport Leisure park with attractions including the Yorkshire Car Collection, Model Village, Neptune's Kingdom and Butterfly World. Plus 28 high street stores
Hornsea, HU18 1UT Tel: 01964 534211. |
I know I could ring one or both of those numbers, but thought that if I put something on here it would also serve to bring it's existence to others notice. |

Hi P,
As far as I know its still in Keighly, although I've got to say that information is from the local tourist information web site. I'm heading to York for a week in December and planned to build in a trip over to see their Argyll, so I hope the information is correct.
If you find out otherwise would you let me know please?

Hi
I have just spoken to a TI office near Keighley.
Some of the collection went to Hornsea and also to the Scopos Motor Museum (which now has it's own collection I believe) but then came back, subsequently some parts of the collection have been sold.
TI told me that the Scopos is now known as the Yorkshire Motor Museum and is situated at Batley, in the Yorkshire Mill Mile here http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|alexander rd, batley#t=l&map=53.70705,-1.62601|17|4&loc=GB:53.70832:-1.62365:17|alexandra rd, batley|Alexandra Road, BATLEY, WF17
I can't get the entire link to highlight so you need to cut and paste it.
I was given a Tel No of 01924 44 44 23 for YMM
10-5 Mon-Sat and 10:30-4:30 Sun
The vehicles still with the Black family are, I am given to understand, now a private collection used for film work. |

Hi Dave - its a 1904 10/12 Tourer. However from what Penman has posted above with the car now in "private ownership" with the Black family it might not be as simple as me writing to the museum asking permission to examine the car.
Hi Penman - thank you for taking the time to sus this out, next time you're up in Glasgow there's a free tour of the museum waiting for you. |

Hi Scotty
If you have a museum connection, it might be worthwhile trying a letter/personal approach for a private viewing.
The Keighley phone number on the original posting is still live, but it just didn't answer when I tried it. |

Hi P,
That's exactly the method I'll being using as I'm being allowed to use museum headed stationery to contact potential owners being an officially sanctioned research project. As you obviously realise, headed stationery carries far more "weight" than a "Joe Soap" letter.

Hi
You have probably said this in the past, but what Veterans, Edwardians are in the museum you are involved with Scotty?
Cheers

This, I believe is the Argyll owned by the Black family, that was part of the Yorkshire Car Collection -
Thank you to Rob for taking the picture and all credit goes to him for the excellent shot.
