As a newbie to this forum I just thought I'd try a first post.
I suspect this yard doesn't look the same today. I came across it on the road from Bergen to Oslo in 1972, which is the date of this picture. This shot doesn't show much of it but it was littered with pre-war vehicles.
Regards,
Peter

[edit - Rick - the [/img] had dropped to the line below and stopped the image links working for some reason?!?]

Hi
Well I am a bit late today! Welcome to te site, and I am another who loves the old pics of cars in general but scrap yards are a particular favourite!
What cars do you have Peter or are interested in?
Cheers

Hi Dave,
Please see http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/ssjaguar.htm and the link at the bottom of the article. I also have a 1937 SS Jaguar 2½ litre saloon but without a body but I have run various 50s and 60s Rootes cars as normal transport followed by a Ginetta G15 and a Reliant Rebel so I'm not totally stuck in the '30s.
What vehicles are you interested in?
Kind regards,
Peter
p.s. I didn't think my Sunbeam Alpine would survive the hidden pot-holes
in Norwegian tunnels in the early '70s so my transport over there was a 105E Anglia. |

Hi
I like the look of the jag, best place to be stuck is in the 30's of prior to that! hehe
I have seen a link to your site, I will try to remember to look at that tonight.
Sounds like you have had/are having an interesting fleet of classics.
My interests are outlined here: http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/forum/phpbb/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1105 and at www.minisidewalk.co.uk
I liked old cars, minis and 70's stuff when I was younger, and up to about 19, then started to get interested in pre war, and pre war shaped stuff, with the odd steam driven vehicle.
Now I am still interested in pre war automobiles but also have a good interest in veteran/vintage and an even stronger interest in steam.
Have you any pictures of the work you are doing on the Jag, would be good to see some in the "Your Restorations Thread".
Cheers

Sorry Old Nail but I took those photos 35 years ago. It's always possible that the yard looks just the same today but I very much doubt it
I visited the yard where my old Jag came from a few years ago and took some video of it. The owner had some nice stuff salted away. I'll capture a few frames from the video and post them for you yardies
Dave, I had a read through your thread. You're doing some really good stuff.
Did you make your PF yourself? Very impressive. Riding that down hills sounds pretty hairey.
'Don't know much about Minis although I used various 1100s as everyday transport for a few years. Used to drive a friend's Mini estate now and again, but it was a bit older than your's, having 848 engine and golf club gearlever.
I learned to drive in an 100E Prefect and sat my driving test in it but that's about the nearest I got to your pick-up. It'll be nice when you get it on the road. They are real period pieces. You don't see many about.

Apologies to the moderators, this is running a little OT but here's a few video
stills of the yard that my old Jag came from. It's in Somerset and as you can see had one of those lovely Ex WD cranes. The owner had quite a few nice
cars tucked away in old sheds and backs of vans. They were a bit difficult
to take pictures of and he was adament that he would only sell his collection complete. I believe they were all auctioned off.
The video stills aren't very good individually so I've just tried to piece them together as a collage.
