I noticed a crest on the rear doors of this Mark V1 Bentley (H.J. Mulliner aluminium lightweight saloon) and as it is not something that we ever discuss I thought it would be interesting to investigate more.

I contacted the owner but he claimed not to know to whom the crest referred. This seemed a bit odd to me so I have been searching Google Images... but to no avail.

I am just curious.

Hi
I wonder if a photo to https://www.college-of-arms.gov.uk/ would elicit a helpful reply.

I must say that looks very much like the Swedish coat of arms.

Good thinking. If I can get decent enlargement I could try that. They would know, I am sure.

It does have the three crowns; if that is what they are?. The crown obviously implies Royalty but usually Royal emblems are removed when the car is taken out of Royal service.

Perhaps it is a theatrical/film prop.?

I thought they looked more like three white 'fleur de lis'.

I was surprised that the owner didn't know..(or didn't - for some reason - want to say?) Confused

Thinking about this some more you could also try using the Google Reverse Images search function.
You just drag and drop the image into this page https://images.google.com/
it is a good way to check whether anyone has half inched any of your photos, or to see if an ebay sale has been copied by somebody for nefarious reasons.

The more I think about this the more I am leaning towards a film prop. As I say, it would not likely be a genuine Royal crest as anything with a crown would have been removed before sale.

It could, of course, be something made up by a previous owner with ideas above their station. For example, when I worked in Addlestone, I recall a chauffeur driven Rolls Royce Silver Shadow with tinted glass and a cypher on the side that belonged to a Mr Ho..... He owned a chain of Chinese restaurants. Laughing
