|
|
Hi
This is my first post and wonder if anyone can help me on deciding which of the above cars to buy as I'm a bit confused on how they differ as far as the body/exterior goes.
I have only seen photo's of each car on the net and, to me they appear identical except for the different radiator grills - are there any other exterior differences?
According to the Motorbase website the Wolseley Eight Series E in top condition goes for around £2800 and the Morris Eight Series E dearer at £3500 - is there any reason for this or is the Morris just more popular.
This great photo is the reason I want one of these - I think this is a Morris Eight but don't know which model.
If I had a choice I'd probably look for a Wolseley as it's a bit cheaper but any advise on buying either of these cars would be appreciated.
cheers

Hi Tim and welcome
I have a Morris 8 series E, your quite right about the exterior differences they are minor as basicly it is the same body. I would have thought that the Wolsesley would have been the more expensive car as it is a bit more plush and not as common.
You can certainly get an the road Morris for less than £2000, I can advise you what to look for when you get to buy one. The photo is the Wolesley, the Morris had the flush headlamps, a then bold modern bit of styling !

Welcome Tim.
Although the Wolseley is a nicer car, the spares situation may be dictating the price. While the Morris has a very reliable, simple SV engine with good spares availability. The Wolseley (I believe) may have a fairly uncommon OHV engine that is less reliable, and harder to get spares for.

Thanks for all your replies. My brother-in-law who has done up a few cars agrees with Don about spares availability and reckons I should steer clear of the Wolseley because of the problem with spares for the OHV engine.
Does anyone know if the rest of the Wolseley's running gear (gearbox, diff etc) is the same as used in the Morris Eight?
cheers

hi the Wolseley has an early type of xpag engine as fitted to MG's of the time, the only engine weak spots being the grade of pistons used at the time and the main gearing on the timing shaft stripping.Body rust is as the Morris 8 from which it shares all body panels from the rear of the front wings back ,apart from the boot lid which is hinged opp to the Morris. The Wolseley is a lot better car than the Morris due to finish[interior, etc] and hold the road very well for a small car but for long journeys or use as a daily driver I would opt for the larger 10 or 12 models |
