Hi

No not my pickup! hehe Laughing

I have just found this for a potential E83W buyer/collector:- http://www.theclassicauctioncompany.com/listing.php?fn=auction&auction=20071206&view=c0yx5iw

Looks a simple recomision as it looks to be complete, running when it came off the road and not touched by the looks.

Cheers

Dave

I read about the first one recently - the second one, the custom job - $58k!!!! - has been on sale for some time, the seller has sent me blurb about it before but it sounds like quite a strong price..

Hi
Question

I suppose I could wait until I see one at a show and look for my self but why wait.

Why do they have 2 starting handle apertures and why are they offset, not central?

UK market vans have the engine offset to the nearside (passenger side), left hand drive export vans the engine is offset to the other side. So rather than make two pressings, they just fit one grille to both domestic and export vans, and you use whichever starting handle hole lines up with your engine!

The engine is offset - ie semi-forward control, so that less of the overall length of the vehicle is given to the engine, allowing the snub front end to be a feature of the E83W. Some other vans (not E83Ws), eg the Morris J Types, are fully-forward control, ie the engine is between the seats and the driver is right at the front of the vehicle, again maximising payload capacity for a given length of vehicle.

Hi

Did the earlier Fordsons not have one hole, or was this just me being mistaken?

Cheers

Yup thats correct, the super-early (ie pre-war) vans just had the single hole, perhaps at the time the E83Ws were domestic market only, and when exports began thats when the second one was added to the existing pressing.

Hi
Thanks for that.

I wonder that other manufacturers didn't do it.
