Hi...

Recently joined - for my own selfish pursuits - but this is a genuine offer. I have a Mark 4 1978 Spitfire, bought 9 years ago, and for the last 6 years it hasn't been really used, though it was garaged for nearly all of that time. For several reasons, I want to get rid of it: It doesn't get used, it doesn't like speed-bumps, it's not best suited to traffic jams, we have another car, and most importantly, I'm moving abroad this summer and the car can't come. I tried to sell it last summer and failed, and I tried to get it in order again, only to blow the alternator because I attached the battery terminals incorrectly. The tax runs out at the end of April, the mot end of this month, insurance as well - it's parked on the street. Bottom line, I don't want to spend any more cash now. I want to cut my loses and take what I can get...

I know for sure the alternator needs replacing, the brakes are probably seized, and one small see-through window panel is partly torn and needs replacing. It has 65,000 on the clock, has tons of history as the previous owner to me built it from scratch, and until I stopped driving it, it was 100% reliable, a great drive, and very noisy and fun. It's got Piper-Cross twin-carbs, plus other modifcations which gives it an extra 15-20 bhp, but I'm really not a car person so I'm repeating what I was told when I bought it, rather than what I know through my own knowledge.

The car needs picking up, and after that it's not my responsibility. On the one hand I want to sell it a.s.a.p. but on the other it really pains me to see it go - but it needs a loving home and regular driving. I have been quoted £70=00 to get it to a local garage just to get the alternator done and a new MOT and I can't be bothered. So...

Here's my number: 07968 790 516, and here are some photos: Hope the link works... Confused

I appreciate there's an element of risk involved for the buyer but I'm sure there are many on here that would find this a very simple and ultimately very rewarding project. I have an amount in my mind based on what I think it's worth in good condition etc, but the main thing is I sell it bfore the MOT / insurance run out.

Forgot to mention: I live in Hackney, east London.
