|
|
In my minds eye I know what I am looking for but not sure if I can explain it properly! I need to put some black vinyl on some internal body panels (glass fibre) to finish my interior off. I am looking for some quilted/padded vinyl of the type that when you look at it it looks as if it has 'diamonds' stitched on. Does this make sense. Have looked at Woolies site but they seem to have the tubed fluted type. I am not into stitching myself so am looking for the ready available sort. Any suggestions welcome |

I would have thought that a good upholsterer would be able to do it for you even if you wanted to do the panels yourself they may be happy just to stitch up the material for you _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com

Tony, is this the kind of thing that you are trying to describe? Or looking for?

Hi Tony
Found this link but they seem to be in the states http://quiltedvinyl.com/
This is for wall coverings, maybe an idea to try DIY stores locally.
They used to sell loads of it for covering bath panels and Bed Headboards. |

Hi Uncle Joe
Thanks for the photo - thats the sort of style but not quite so posh! Would prefer smaller diamonds and my budget doesn't stretch to leather. |

Before you buy the vinyl, check the price against leather...I bought both leather and vinyl from the same place a few weeks ago, and the sq. ft price of leather was lower.... May not be the same everywhere though..... |

While you mentioned leather I will take this opportunity to offer a caviat!
Be aware that hide is not just hide!!
There are lots of different grades, a full hide should cost in the region of £300 if they work out half that price then they are probably what are called "split hides"
A full thickness hide should be 3mm+ the top naturally grained hide will be the expensive part but the thickness is probably split into 3 the bottom 2 slices will then be rolled flat and imprinted with grain and even fake scars, and then coloured they dont really last under high pressure ares but are ok for door panels etc
I learned a lot about hide when I went into business with a friend who had a leather redressing company, he had worked with Connolly for many years _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com
