Quoting Greeney on another topic ''the Etype it still comes up as best car of the century and it shows at shows.''

Does everyone agree with this, or are ther other choices for this title?

Can I add I didn't agree that the E Type was the Car of the Century, I have a few of my own, I was just remarking on what I see, my best mate in the UK has one I have helped to rebuild to concours and at "general" shows it gets a constant stream of people clambering to be near it. You can see why it nearly always get the peoples vote for number 1 car Rolling Eyes

Tough choice to pick any single one isn't it?
Perhaps different categories might be easier to break down a winner in each?

yeah I think it needs to be best family car, best sports car, best luxury car etc as you can't really compare say a Model T with a Mini, or an E Type with a Fiat 500.

The trouble with me is I am a "virgo" and I have to have boxes and folders within folders Embarassed SO! I have to have categories Rolling Eyes
The 2CV is up the top purely because it didn't pretend to be anything it wasn't and did everything it said on the tin and with a run of 40yrs plus is up there with the mini and VW
As a piece of art I am going to go for THE not just MY DS Citroen, if you imagine this car coming out in 1955 as it did, looking like it did, it was out of the this world
I am afraid there are too many choices for too many reasons Cool

I think that its not only different categories that are needed, but different eras as well.

Offhand, I could think of several cars that could be in the running.

Minis for being a forerunner, Model T Fords for being the first conveyor belt cars, Chrysler Letter series for starting the musclecar era, Austin 7's, Fiat 500's/2CV's...the list goes on....

8)DS Citroen for me as well. Pure style of the same era as the minor, standard 8 and 10 to name a couple. Its comparable to us living in mudhuts and the Romans with central heating.
Small family car (even though I hate to say it ) would be the Morris Minor.
E Type afraid not. much prefer the Mk2 Jag.

I have to agree with the DS. Citroen almost bankrupted themselves with the Traction Avant simply because it was so advanced and expensive to produce, so in typical Citroen fashion, in 1955 they introduced...something so advanced and expensive to produce! Laughing

I have to admit there are many beautiful cars, stunning even and I know that beauty is in the eye blah blah but Rolling Eyes I think the DS is in a different category even to beauty it was not just skin deep it was a complete design icon through its entirety (apart from its engine as they couldnt get the new v6 to work sufficiently well, they ended up using the traction engine and had to mount the gearbox at the front which in turn pushed the engine into the floor area of the cab.)
There wasnt even a budget! The DS never made a penny for Citroen they used the profits from the 2CV and the H van to fund it. The IDs however made a small profit.
Sorry I could go on and on... I must say I have had many cars and when I had my leather restoration business I got to drive everything you could imagine, the DS is to me something different in too many ways to mention.
You will have to read my book when its finished Rolling Eyes Cool

After deliberating on this subject, my choice goes to....the Willys Jeep.

The Original Willys Jeep had an expected engine life of just 80 hours, while in the same category would be the Mk1 Landrover which did the same job and lasted for years.
The Germans had it's contemporary the Kubelwagen, which was based on a VW beetle platform and was still in production almost unchanged until the 70's. Called 'The thing' by it's American market!
