I am trying to refurbish an old lucas alternator for an MGA and before I try more force can anyone tell me if the nut for the pulley is a regular thread or is it Lefthand
The nut is almost flush with the shaft and corroded so I cannot see the thread on the shaft
Great forum which I stumbled across by luck Only wish I had access to all the parts that seem to be available in the UK and not in Canada |

Hi Scotcado and welcome,
I am restoring an mga too and also do.a bit with vehical electrical stuff. The mga was fitted with a dynamo not an alternator, yours may have had an upgrade at some point? Either way they all spin the same way, do you know which Lucas model it is?
Cheers Dave |

Hi
it will be a right hand tread, if the nut is flush its sounds as if the pulley has been changed from the standard Lucas ACR, which is not a problem.
I rebuild an ACR a couple of weeks ago, link to the thread;

Which model MGA are you restoring? any pics?

many thanks Dave Finally removed the nut and after viewing your excellent posting on repair details for the lucas ACR it answers other questions I had
Re the car It is an MGB and not a an MGA as first stated
I have been helping a friend over some time who has both cars and forgot which model it was for ( age related memory )
Will post some pics in relative forum eventually |
