This is a photo of the gaswork mounted on a lorry. They were available in various sizes, intended for use by everything from small motorcycles to trams! I wonder why one of these isnt fitted to some prewar classics to reduce running costs? They are still available if you know where to look!

"why one of these isnt fitted to some prewar classics"
Could you imagine the local greenies' faces when you chugged up in your coal powered conveyance?
In Holland these contraptions were used widely during and after the war.The problem was that of supply of the fuel. The carriage of fuel(coal or wood)reduced the vehicles carrying capacity by a large margin.
It was also a filthy job washing out the producer at the end of the day,as was required. But I guess it was better than nothing at all. |

I suppose that they would accept wood burners, after all, that is a renewable fuel. As far as coal goes, more smoke comes out of a greenies mouth.... |
