As a new member I thought I would tell you about the caravans we have owned.
I was born in 1950 and my parents already owned a home made caravan at Skegness. Apparently when I was new born babe I slept in an open drawer. Dad moved the caravan luckily just before the floods on the east coast (1953?) His first touring caravan was a Berkeley Messenger and the whole of the back wall opened up on legs to form a canopy . His next caravan was a Charnwood which was made to order by a manufacturer in Leicester called Jimmy Wright. (about 1957). They then had an Eccles,a Thomson Gleneagle and their last was an Elddis.
My own caravans have been Buccanneer,Stirling (a proper one by Stephens and West), Tabbert,Elddis,Carlight Cassetta, Safari (again a proper one by Pearmain Briggs I think) Colchester and now a Swift.
The modern caravans may be comfortable and have every mod con (do we need them?) but I love the style of the old vans.
Hope I havent bored you with this saga
Regards
Robin

Hi Robin

May I send you a very warm welcome to the site Very Happy Very Happy

Do not think that your story was boring, personally I love to hear stories like yours. I can fully concur with your feelings for old vans, there is just something wonderful about the past they have endured, and the personality they have...... something that can't be said for the newer vans Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

Keep the 'sagas' coming.

Hi Robin,
I thought your posting was very interesting, not at all boring, I have posted a large 'saga' myself, about my own memories. It's good to read someone else's recollections of growing up living with caravans as their first memories.
