I live in a wooden 1930's chalet by the River Severn which has no electricity or running water. I'm finding it a bit dark during the long winter and desparately need to locate some glass shades for my gas lights as all the original ones are broken. I wondered if I might track some down on your website.

The shades need to be between 2 and a half and 2 and three quarter inches across the top and are fixed with the aid of three small blunt ended screws. Ideally I could do with half a dozen. A source of cheaper mantles would also be helpful as they are charging me £2.65 each at the caravan shop and they are so delicate I keep damaging them as I fiddle about with various shades that don't fit properly.

Thank you for your assistance.

Sara

Hi Sara,
I grew up in a caravan (1962 Travelmaster Trident 27ft long) and our gaslights were high on the walls near the ceiling, so we only had them on for ten mins or so, at Xmas or Birthdays, because they burned the ceiling!

My Dad bought an Aladdin paraffin lamp, it had a brass bowl on a stand and a white glass shade and a tall glass chimney up the middle. It needed a wick which had to be trimmed, and it had a mantle, which, as you know, are powdery and delicate and can just fall to peices, but it gave off 120 candle power and the mantle for this type of lamp might be easier to find.

Good luck with your search anyway. Perhaps eBay might have something?
