Hi all,

I'm a motoring writer and photographer, writing for various British magazines (though not usually on commercials, I must confess).

I've been asked by Goodwood to help them put together a really spectacular display of 1948 vehicles for the Goodwood Revival Meeting on September 19-21. The Goodwood Revival Meeting is a brilliant event - it's based at the old Goodwood racetrack, which opened in 1948 (hence the date for the display) and closed in 1966 - it then remained unchanged for decades until 10 years ago when they got permission to run one big event a year there. So, they took advantage of its unchanged appearance and put together a huge celebration of 1940-60s motoring - it's a race meeting, a fair, a car show, and so much more all rolled together. All participants and most of the visitors dress in 1940s-60s clothes, they get over 100,000 people from all over the world and it's just an unforgettable experience. I took my Mum and Dad last year (both in their 80s) and they haven't stopped talking about it since.

Anyway, back to this display - as part of the meeting, they want to have a special display and on-track parades that recreate what was on the roads in 1948 - everything from pedal cycles to milk floats to pantechnicons. At lunchtime each day, the vehicles - we hope to have at least 50 - will parade around the circuit in front of 100,000 people. The rest of the time you're free to enjoy the event, with complimentary tickets, food, campsite, even a cocktail party at Goodwood House all provided.

What we need are vehicles that might have been around in 1948. Can you help, and can you put me in touch with other owners of suitable vehicles? If they're a bit later, but of a type that was on sale in 1948, that's fine too.

It really is a brilliant event; I've been organising the parades for two years now (first microcars, then historic caravans) and every year everyone who comes says they wouldn't have missed it for the world and begs for the chance to come again - but Goodwood change the parade subjects every year so it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity...

Contact me here or at MMcKays(at)aol.com

Thanks!
Malcolm
