Hi

Well today was the magic day, I got the pickup registered, and have been driving it around a bit! Great fun!

This may come to a surprise to some, as I haven't mentioned it for a while, to make it a surprise when it got on the road, I mean a mate and I have been really beavering away on the old Ford, now named "Ernie".

I went to see Rick for a surprise Visit this pm, which was nice, we had a little drive around in mine, then in his Cambridge, very nice it was too.

I don't have any pictures on the computer just yet, as I am having problems getting them on to the family desktop, with my laptop going silly.

If Rick has any feel free to post one.

Cheers

Dave

Yeah buzzy's arrival this afternoon was completely unexpected, as was the news that the pickup was now back on the road! he took me out for a spin in it and I took him for a ride in the A55, despite appearances there is only 4 years between the build of these two old timers.

Hi

Thanks for posting some pics, glad it was a nice surprise for you, I have had to do some work recently on it, and was dyding to tell you all, I had told one or two people, who helped me out with certain bits, but I thought it would be a nice surprise to roll up at ricks in it, considering it was his First E83W too once.

Cheers

The pick-up looks great Dave.

Hard to believe there is only 4 years between them though

Hi

Thanks for your comments, It has been so difficult keeping it secret!

I hadn't realised people where wondering where I was, I have been spending a little bit of time in the garage! hehe I now need to run it for a few tanks, of fuel, and sort out the running rich problem, that rick comfirmed with his thoughts today. Then maybe if I feel confident, I am booked into Llandudno at the begining of may! may get some AA Cover for piece of mind! hehe

Then got lots of work to do slowly to it, now it is useable, I will just fiddle with it, and improve it to a certain extent, never perfect as time goes on!

Cheers

Yup I think much of the smokey-ness is down to running rich, either a carb setting or perhaps a little wear in the carb. If you get chance, after a reasonable run, whip the plugs out (Champion L10s I trust?) and report back on what they look like!

Next year it'll be 20 years since we pulled that pickup out of a Welsh field, where's that time gone Shocked Shocked

For anyone who hasn't encountered a plugometer before Smile

http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/plugometer.htm

Just looking through some old pics I have, theres one showing both pickups on the drive here in October 2006 - I think the only reason NCA would have been out on the drive was an imminent sale, so perhaps it was then?

PS the handbook should have some photos showing which adjusters do what on the carb, theres only two - the other controls the idle and bears onto the throttle linkage. From memory the mixture screw could be on the top of the Zenith

Hi

Got the info from the book, srece the throttle adjuster 1/2 - 1 1/2 turns in after making contact, then the air screw out2 -3 turns, and then fiddle untill it runs nicely.

Cheers
