Any clues as to the make and year of this.

I am waiting for a high resolution copy to be sent to me, but I am told that on the original photo the registration can be read as FX3695, which I believe was issued in Dorset.

Thanks

Peter

Because the photograph is so blurred I'm not certain, however I'm more inclined to think it looks like a c1913 Morris Oxford.

The registration number is often a good indicator as to a vehicle's age (although not always), but the "FX" allocation has had me scratching my head. I have a book that gives registration number issue dates and "FX" isn't listed for some reason - "FW" and "FZ" is, but not FX, perhaps an omission on the part of the authors.
What I can find is registration listings for "AFX" , "BFX", etc and they certainly are for Dorset, so that's leads me to assume that's how the "Dorest" identity has been suggested, but no date I'm afraid.

Did the better quality image ever arrive?

Scotty. Wink

I've had a look through the museum's library and in a 1907 book it lists "FX" as Dorset - so it was indeed an ommision on the part of the author of my reference book.

At least that's cleared up if but for nobody else than me. Very Happy

Peter and Scotty

I also thought Bull Nose Morris:

This is a later one with electric side lights, but in the blurred pic I can't see the front springs.

My Reg number listing gives FX as Dorset from Jan 1904 - Jan 1923.

If you would like a copy for the museum Scotty it is a 34000 line excel sheet that I could attach to an email. Send me a pm.

Hi

I like these older motor cars, and the first thing I said to myself was bull nose, so I would say it is a morris, but will wait to see the quality pic.

Cheers

hmm not sure about the shape of the Morris' scuttle, plus didn't all Bullnoses come with artillery wheels, or did they change during production?? the car in the first pic looks like it has different wheels

Not forgetting of course some smaller companies used to buy ready made vehicles and adapt them to there own style.
Its how William Lyons started the Swallow sidecar or SS, later, Jaguar company. The first swallow car was actually an Austin 7

Latest info on this car. 1919 Lagonda

Certainly the grille seems to match. As yet I haven't been able to track down another photo of a 1919. The distinctive upward sloping cowl ( between the bonnet and the windshield) does not appear on later models, also this is a two door.

I have sent a pic to the Lagonda club.

Scotty.... My first reaction was to go for a Morris too. I have been trawling through Lagonda images with little success as yet. Plenty of the later models but seems this was one of only a few.

But then thats what makes this so interesting, I guess we could all spot an Austin A30 if it was 2 miles away and upside down in a field... Laughing
