|
|
Hi all, Jane sent me some photos of an unusual car mascot that she's trying to identify - does anyone recognise this?? I've never seen anything like it myself.
Jane adds: "I am not sure if you will be able to help but I am trying to get some information on a Car Mascot that my dad had given to him when he was much younger, he's 80 now.
He swapped it for some cigarette cards and knows nothing about it at all and has given me the task of trying to get some info.
I have attached some photos and can tell you it's made of metal. Not much help!
Any information would be greatly appreciated."
thanks, Rick _________________ Rick - Admin

I think some of those mascots were "add ons " to "pretty " the car up. |

It looks like Neptune - did any manufacturers have a water theme? _________________ Don't run your fingers over my truck & I won't run my truck over your fingers!

I collect mascots from the 1920s & 1930s, and have several books on the subject. But I don`t recall ever having seen that one before. Like you guys have said though, there were hundreds of "aftermarket" mascots of every description available during that time period, that would fit just about any car. _________________ "The only thing I`m sure of.....is that I`m not sure of anything!" |

The metal colour doesn't really suggest a car mascot. I wonder if it could be a finial for an urn or similar.
If it were a car mascot I suppose the makers might have been targetting the owners of Atlanta and Marmon cars Not a very large market segment.

You know Peter, I had a similar thought. It almost looks as if it were a handle of some sort, that one would grab around the thicker part, with the thinner bar being a finger guard. _________________ "The only thing I`m sure of.....is that I`m not sure of anything!" |

Not having much experience on this subject, but it appears to be very tall.
It looks like its nearly over a foot (300cm) in height - that's a big piece of kit balanced on the nose of a radiator, I'd hate to see a kid swinging on it! |
