At the end of 2008, under EU legislation, it is proposed to ban any mention or advertising of Imperial Units. Just imagine, you want a 11/16 " spanner but the company selling one is not allowed to mention it. I appeal to all UK citizens to sign the petition at -

After having lived in both 'Metric' and 'Imperial' countries I feel qualified to say - SIGN THE PETITION!

Hi

I allways thought imperial and metric are good, When I make something, or measure up for a job, I start measuring, and see if imperial or metric works best, then use the best one. You will also find when I am measuring for a job, scribling the measurements down, measurements in both mm, cm and inch's I find it makes life easier for myself, but others find it rather anoying!!

I will sign this pettition, as I wil be real mucked up at work if they go!!

Cheers

Dave

I'll tell a fact about the metric standard, in story form.

The year is 1955. Fritz in Germany takes his brand new VW Beetle to France. Whilst there, it breaks down. Exclamation To fix it, he needs an M5 nut. he goes into the garage, and buys one. Unfortunately, being of French manufacture, it doesnt fit....french and german metric standards are different.... Shocked

The year is 2007. Fred takes his 1877 Steam engine from England to Scotland. Whilst there, a 3/4 Whitworth nut falls of. He goes into a garage, buys the nut, and it fits.....the standard has never changed since it was introduced..... Cool

For those that think the metric standard is universal, compare ISO E (European) and ISO J (Japanese).....as well as how many changes have been made to the standard over the past few years.....

I should grab it with both hands XK, official figures show that there are approx 500,000 Brits a year leaving the UK for good while immigration into the UK greater than that figure but is unchecked and unmonitored, it doesn't take a genius to see where we're headed. Crying or Very sad

The 2005 "National Electrical Code" in the states has gone to metric measures listed first, followed by standard (US) measure in parenthesis.
It took over 200 years to get us yanks used to the idea of metrics......now this?
LOL!
