This bicycle belonged to my wife's aunt.
She bought it new in 1946 at a cost of £15/10/7d which was a lot of money back then.
About 10 years ago she told me she was going to leave it outside her front window in the hope someone would steal it as she no longer had room to keep it....Well that was my queue for saving this almost minted original bike....
A friend told me he had a Peugeot racing bike which was surplus to requirements. It has done a total of less than 100 miles and never turned a wheel in over 20 years
Now I feel I must get them out of the basement and give them a clean _________________ ROVER

Hi
I like the Humber, I would have gone around to my aunties house in the dark, removed the bike from under the window, and then in a few weeks ride over to see aunty on her bike, see what the reception was.
Nice that it has family connections.
If you ever want to see some bicycles in a collection, let me know, they are up here near me, and you will not believe your eyes! I haven't been for a while, and have only seen half of the collection!
Cheers

nice bikes 47p2 and even buzzy's look nice, I've only got a couple of raleigh choppers (one was mine when I was young and the other one my wife's) and also have a mountain bike but thats too modern though!!
I've got a nice plan for the choppers, one will be customised for my daughter when she's old enough (still 4 months old so plenty of time) and mine which is almost totally original will be kept that way and maybe given a respray in the same red due to some scratches it received in my early years and have the graphics re applied!!
they r both mk 2s from the late 70s so not that old!! |

I went into the basement and looked out the two bikes.
I must admit the Humber is a peach of a bike for 62 years old, it shows a lovely patina and is all original except tyres and a change of saddle which aunty did many years ago.
Unusual for 1946 this bicycle has cable operated brakes. Other 1946 Humber bikes I have seen are still on rods.
When I first recieved this bike I used to take my dog for a run, me on the bike and him running along beside me
Some lovely badge details
The Aristocrat of All Bicycles
The Peugeot is totally original even down to the tyres
Unusual gear change with the levers behind the headset
Centre pull brakes. Most likely made by Weinmann
Is anyone on the forum an expert with bikes?
Does anyone know of a value of these 2 machines? _________________ ROVER

This is what I use if and when I am brave enough to cycle nowadays
I bought this new about 28 years ago and about 20 years a added a lot of Shimano gear to it. It is the most comfortable machine I have ever owned (I've had a few) and it has done many thousands of miles over the past 28 years
It has 14 gears 52/40 front and 11/19 rear so pushing very high gears.

Nice machines, especially the Humber. That'll be George IVmentioned on the badge, can't actually imagine him on a bicycle but possibly Princesses Elizabeth and Margaret were Humber riders.
I have a couple of Rover cycles, a gents from about 1924 which is rough but original and a 1912ish ladies which is just rough _________________ To Hell with ambition, it drives a man mad, I can scarcely wake up to be fed. |

Tell Mike Couldry, that's who sold me my gents. When he gets a Rover bike that duplicates one in his collection he sells it on. _________________ To Hell with ambition, it drives a man mad, I can scarcely wake up to be fed. |
