Hello Peter, I have reason to be interested in that area. My Uncle was Radio Officer on the SS Dayrose, which was torpedoed on 15th Jan 1942 while in passage from St John's NFL to Halifax & on to Maine,at that time West of Cape Race. The U boat was U-552. The Master, 31 crew members & six gunners were lost. I always meant to visit the area but doubt if I will now.
Life just got in the way, cheers,JD. _________________ 1958 Ford Zephyr Mk2 Convertible

Peter,
I have mentioned in a previous post about the Canadian Volvos and how they developed a reputation for prematurely rusting which was attributed to the fact that the assembly plant was near the sea.
On another note, in 1975 I switched from being an auto electrician to become a computer engineer. The company that hired me wanted to send me down to Truro, Nova Scotia to work at the Canadian Forces base there and sent me on a fact/house finding trip. I declined the post as it would have cost me twice as much to live there as it was in Toronto.
