|
|
OK for those of use with slightly older classics how about some suggestions for the best '50s music for driving? One of my next jobs is to get my old HMV valve radio converted for FM and MPEGs so them I'll buy an iPod and put some "classic" music on it.
I was thinking about
Matt Monro - On Days Like These http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_z8aLdIejPs&feature=related
Andy Williams - The Impossible Dream http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WX_0OcL96v0&feature=related (ok do it's a '60s song but it has the right feel to it)
Then not motoring related but my Dad's favourite song, Mona Lisa by Nat King Cole http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxEmnxiUz8w
...and of course some Frank Sinatra but don't know which ones..?
Any other ideas? Rich... |

Yes, Dave Brubeck. Take five, and Blue Rondo. I thought about putting them in but they were early 60s.

Lots of different kinds of Jazz, Joe.
I particularly like the 'Race Music', such as that recorded on the Blue Note & Verve labels between '66 & '70. _________________ Don't run your fingers over my truck & I won't run my truck over your fingers!

I could stretch to George Formby as good jazz...
By the way J-R, welcome back... |

Thanks Joe.
Though I'm already wishing I was back there - it didn't take long for the British Govt. to make sure of that...

| Though it did start in the '50's, its really more '60's. That is to say virtually every song ever recorded on the Stax label, then again theres Northern Soul..... |

are you entirely sure that you want that sound reproduced by purely electronic means? what i mean is, that in order to get massive amounts of data onto these devices, it is necessary to compress a lot of it, and thereby a good portion of the signal or data is distorted on playback.
i think a better sound quality would be found with standard CD multiple disc player carrying a collection of your favorites. anyway;just my opinion! |

George Formby! Jazz? Say what you like about him but he had impeccable taste in cars and motorcycles, (when his wife would let him use them.) |

I remember them as well.....
The best in the car is Cliff Richard "Move it".......The only out and out rock and roll record made in Britain....All the other rock and roll records were American.
Any Lonnie Donegan from the 50s is also good listening....Rock island line etc. _________________ The Clan Chieftain |
