Have you ever weighed your caravan?

We know our Fawn ex works weight is 11cwt or 559kg but today on the way back from a week end away we called in where I work and drove out over the weighbridge that we use for the every day for the vans, bearing in mind it was fully loaded with battery, gas, awning, tea, coffee and sugar she weighed in at 750kg, nearly half her weight again, no wonder the Sceptre struggled which is why we now only tow her with the SD1 or every day cars

This is something we have previously discussed on my Safari Forum.

The difference between unladen weight and maximum laden weight for Safaris is just under 200kgs and members felt they were regularly exceeding the max.

I have never been able to weigh mine, but I am sure I am exceeding the mlw.

I have been told that the unladen weight is with everything that can be removed taken out.

So a lot of heavy essential items: spare wheel, battery, gas bottle, water and waste tanks, portaloo, matresses, and awning are excluded from the ulw, and to the weight of these must be added your clothes, bedding, food, cutlery and crockery, deck chairs, etc to arrive at the travelling weight.

My Amazon now produces about 120 bhp and while it copes ok, I am always aware of the weight of the Safari on the back, especially on long inclines.

I wold be interested if other caravan owners have actual weights of their full loaded caravan to see how it compares with the manufacturers' figures.

Jayne, you should empty Simons beer & choc fridge before you leave site. Wink

A friend of our's who's been caravaning for more years than he can remember told us when we had ours not to put anything into the caravan expect the awning and gas bottles, putting most of your stuff into your car. This might explain why I used to suffer from travel sickness when we took ours out (and that was on a trip less than 10 miles Laughing )
