After possibly the wettest drive I have ever had, torrential rain, localised flooding, my latest project is now standing on dollies in my garage....

Here is the mighty motor, a twin carb 700cc...

...and finally, a shot of the spacious interior....

or at least, part of it! Laughing

Scotty: This one is going to be kept original...in case you didnt notice, it does have twin carbs...

Rick, Yes, all of the parts that are missing from the photos are in the boot...including the bumpers.

Heres a bit of info that I have found out about it. It was sold new in Denmark, and imported to Sweden in 1968. Accompanying thít was an original dealer brochure, complete with stamp....In the windscreen is a sticker that shows it was tested in 1974. It was taken off the road however and stored about 30th November 1977. I'll have an exact date later this week.

First job now is to go over it, and see exactly what needs to done....

UJ

I've been checking some measurements and a two foot extension to the boot on your Lincoln and the Isar would fit in.

Now that would be a transporter! (Sorry Rick)

Very interesting vehicle. Will be interesting to watch it's restoration.
Why does it need twin coils?

Well spotted! It doesnt have a distributor.....

Brian: I'm leaving myself wide open here for comments from you, but its towing capacity here is 150kg more than the Lincoln...which makes it possible to get a nice classic 'van. If I can find a towbar!

UJ

Having never seen an Isar before your discovery, I spotted this on another forum, photographed at a recent show.

It is badged Royal and is right hand drive.

On the english market, they were known as Royals. There are quite a few differences to the model I have. The chrome strips on the front wings, the rear lights, the number plate light, the bars on the bumpers.

Thanks for posting the photos Brian...

I would guess that is not the original registration either. Have you noticed how many cars you see with with the same combination of letters. A lot of older imports have variations and cars that have their original UK number transfered. I know DVLA use to issue unused Scottish numbers and also FF.

I could be wrong but I don't think the DVLA issue age related plates with the three numbers followed by three letters.

I can't remember when the three letter followed by number structure was reversed as in the Royal photo but I think it was around 1960. At that time they also reversed the two letter followed by number structure (usually 4 digit number).

My impression is that the DVLA age related plates are either XXXNNN or XXNNNN where the Xs are letter combinations and Ns are numbers.

I don't think they have issued aged related NNNXXX or NNNNXX.

I think that Staffordshire were the first to start using reversed numbers in about 1955, so I suppose that anything earlier with a reversed number would be an age-related one. The different authorities changed as they ran out of numbers.
I think that Radnor (FO) was the only county that were still using the XXNNNN system when the suffixes came in. Can anyone confirm or deny that?

I have a fascination with all reg numbers and from my records the XUA series was issued in Leeds from May 1956, but this is more likely to be the XXXNNN format.

I agree that all the DVLA re-issues have been in the XXNNNN or XXXNNN format and so the number on the Isar Royal is a bit of a puzzle.

Alfa Nut

My list shows that Radnor used FOnnnn from 1903 - September 1958 when they started AFOnnn followed by BFOnnn in Dec 59, CFOnnn Mar 61, DFO July 62.

I know that some counties used nnnnXX formats as late as 1964 eg Kent used KO and KR, my first vehicle (a 1964 Lambretta GT200) was 6253KR.

If anyone wants a copy of my excel lists I can email them but as it is a 36000 line spreadsheet I have to attach it as two separate sheets that you can then combine.

DVLA do issue 3 number 3 letter for age related numbers. Check out the eight or nine old American vehicles in the Newark Americana pictures all with 3 numbers and a combination of X and U. The most common used letters are X and U as these letters do not attract high bids when DVLA auction their numbers.
