Does anyone remember any details about the Flower Vases that used to be inside cars?
Where they porcelain or glass? What were the common flowers? I seem to remember that the flowers were plastic, but am I right? |

Hi UJ,
We have an example of car flower vase at the museum in a Rolls Royce - its about 6 inches tall, designed to sit in a holder as it has a pointed base, plain "sand-blasted" glass, oval in shape with its "mouth" about two inches wide.
I might be able to get a picture if you want?

It would be neat if you could get a photo.
I've been offered one for the T700 when I get it, and the guy mailed me tonight to ask if I would prefer glass or porcelain. Nice gesture, I think, but it has made me think about them, mostly, what would be exactly correct? |

hi
Basically what you are looking for is an Epergne Vase such as the ones about halfway down this page:
http://www.replacements.com/webquote/CAMCAA.htm?s1=nxt&422507&
That is a bit pricey but you might actually find one in an up market garden centre or flower arrangers supplier or at a collectors fair.
You would then want a loop holder for it to drop into, could probably make one from a Brass strip looped into a circle and attached to a flat/curved plate which could be screwed or otherwise attched to your fascia/dashboard.
As an alternative mounting, what about one of those rings which curtain rods go through but mounted so that the ring is horizontal instead of vertical, I'm sure some of them are a small enough diameter. |

So your suggestion is that it should be a glass vase, rather than porcelain?
The holder is included, I'm happy to say. |

Just to confuse things some vases were metal _________________ To Hell with ambition, it drives a man mad, I can scarcely wake up to be fed. |

No need to confuse me, I'm confused enough already!
The choice is between glass and porcelain only. When a vase and holder is being given to me for free, a choice between two is enough....
The gesture does remind me though that there are still a lot of nice people in this hobby. Several of those are on this forum.... |

Hi UJ,
Here are the photographs I promised -
In retrospect my description of "plain sand-blasted glass" perhaps should be for a Rolls Royce - cut crystal with an opaque finish.

Thanks for posting the photos. It may be a bit overkill for the Glas, but after seeing that, I think that I will go for the glass rather than porcelain. |

Hi UJ,
Re the photographs - I've just opened the thread up here at the museum and noticed the violation labels, goodness only knows why the first two photographs of the vase are breaking their rules, yet the third is fine!
Sometimes I wonder what makes these companies tick. |

I bought a couple glass bud vases for our old Chevy on ebay. Oddly enough, I found 2 of the same style, and color, from 2 different sellers at 2 different times. I had to fabricate the mounting brackets though.
