I'm meant to be doing a test drive this weekend (private seller) but I don't have insurance. I'm covered for my partners company car and can drive my parents cars but don't have my own car. I may buy this car and have a five/six hour drive home so I'm not prepared to take any risks.
A few folk I've looked at so far won't cover classic cars(needs to be for 1960) and I've only had a full licence for two years. Eg adrian flux, it must be five years
Can anyone think of a good company who fits all my needs?
Would appreciate prompt responses as I only have a few days to arrange this. |

I guess most people test driving cars will have insurance in their own names, probably on a modern car, and undertake a test drive using the basic third party cover that many policies come with, to cater for driving other people's cars with their permission.
Sorry that doesn't help your situation though, all I can suggest is arranging your own policy on the car if you buy it, and going back for it later
I don't know if insurers are open on Saturdays, but could you have an insurer's details with you, and if you decide to buy the car, could you phone them up and arrange the necessary ins there and then, to cover your drive home? bearing in mind that classic policies tend to require that you have a 'normal' policy running alongside.

Cheers for that. Lots of reputable firms have dissapointed me today. Footman seem to be the best so far.
How have other people here found them? |

I have 4 cars insured through footman - all on one policy. never had to claim though so cant comment how they fair up then.
personally thought they were very reasonable but you have to get the right department for the type of car you want to insure or for the type of use! |

| I have one of my classics insured through footman and have found them helpful. Again, I have never had to make a claim so can't comment on their after accident service |

I presume your partner is going with you? Get he/she to do the one-day insurance thang and then he/she drives it home. |
