I have the problem of finding suitable headgear to wear in either of my open cars.
According to the producers of programmes like Jeeves and Wooster, or Poriot, one could wear a bowler or trilby whilst doing quite high speeds in the 1930s… NO WAY! can this be done in the real world.
The winter is no problem: I have a Cossack or a hunters type hat: both with flaps to cover the ears and fasten under the chin. The summer presents the problem: a popular choice seems to be the baseball cap… but I agree with James May; that wearing one [seems to reduce ones I,Q, by about 50%.]
That leaves a reversed flat hat, with goggles, or a flying helmet; both look a little eccentric. I’m wondering if a beret would stay on? But there’s no peak to keep the sun out of my eyes.

Hi
I remember, back in the early 60's, working with a chap who had a Morgan; he had a Deerstalker but it wasn't just an ordinary one it was actually a crash helmet.
In fact Everoak seem to still make it as well as a fabric covered Corker:

What`s wrong with looking eccentric?
Then there`s always the alternative....a good lathering brush and some sharp razor blades, LOL!

How about one of those crash helmets of the type worn by Moss, Hawthorn, Clark, G. Hill et al?

I remember them as being white but I can't find a picture of exactly what I mean but I'm sure you will know anyway.

Shaped like this..

It will give you a visor, won't blow off, won't restrict peripheral vision and won't have the grunt image of the baseball cap.

I don't know where you buy them new but they turn up at lots of autojumbles.

I guess we really need to know, is this choice of headgear to be also worn by your good lady too? this could have some bearing on our 'help' Smile

How about a Stetson? (cowboy hat) They stay on when rattling across a field at full gallop....

The helmets that Stirling Moss and co. used were generally known as ''Corkers'' by the way....

That beret certainly won't get blown off and lost in a Renault 4 as several hats of mine have in Pigtin. It usually happens on a busy motorway where there's no hope of going back for them.
Many thanks for the suggestions chaps, I rather fancy a Corker type, with a visor. At the moment I go bare-headed with a pair of goggles, but I still have a full head of hair, worn quite long (about the only thing that hasn't fallen out or gone U.S.) and I have to spend a long time combing out the knots--much to the memsahib's amusement. Then again, I could put the windscreen back on; but is detracts from the excitement and pain... we wouldn't want that.
Pic to demonstrate the problem:
