Browsing through some of the forum pages, I came acroos this link
http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/jerseyroadraces.htm
My parents were from Jersey and I know the island very well.
They left the island in 1940, but would return every summer after WWII. I was too young to be taken to any of the races, but my Mum would go to a friends house and watch the cars from an upper floor window close to Bel-Royal corner. The garage in one of the Heritage photos on the Pallot site, is Bel-Royal Garage.
A few photo's can be found here. Go to Heritage Photos
http://www.pallotmuseum.co.uk/
The cars in the photo on Rick's page are on Victoria Avenue, which formed part of the circuit. |

Hi Peter,
Thanks for posting that. I was curious about the location of Rick's photos and spent some fruitless time trying to place them from Google aerial photos.
The heritage photos in your link are great and I loved the quote concerning the railway. Quote: | Such has been the popularity since the line has opened that 41,469½ passengers have traveled to and fro from the 25th October to the 20th November. |

Bel-Royal garage is still there.
My parents moved back to the old family home in 1974. It was only about 1/2 mile West of Bel-Royal.
Cars would race West along Victoria Avenue, as far as Bel-Royal Corner and then head up Millbrook, before turning South East and back towards the Eastern end of Victoria Avenue.
I did find a map of the course. Not the best in the world.

With a little patience and Google maps it is possible to trace the actual course.
Rick's photo of cars and pedestrians is of Victoria Avenue close to West Park Corner.
My Mum would talk about how they would sit on the outer sill of the window, feet dangling over the pavement. She said that she could feel the heat from the cars as they raced past.
In later years I would try and arrange visits there to watch the Bouley Bay hill climb. Sand racing is also very popular. Best if you have some very fast sand
I remember the Pallot museum when it consisted of one old locomotive and some track in a field. |
