alright chaps; the shifter pulled loose from my Pinto 4speed which i believe is called the German unit but used in all sorts of Ford products your side of the pond. i have a plan for repairing it but wonder if any of you know the part number for the replacement part? Ford dealers on THIS side of the pond deny the existence of the Pinto and any parts thereof.
my scheme is to either drill and tap the housing for a pair of grubscrews OR fabricate a clamp of some type to hold the shifter down. |

decided to go ahead with my idea for retaining the shifter nut; drilled two 9/64" holes, tapped them for 10-32 machine screws and put two 3/4" long screws into the nut. placed the screws 180' apart on the housing. should hold okay; the only real drawback i see is that the shifter will not be removeable with the gearbox in the car. will have to work around that eventuality. should the screws fail, i have a backup plan to use a steel wire loop to gold it down. |
