It was through a Rover P5 Specialist Wadhams - I did have label with date of manufacture that stuck on but when it cracked I threw it away! _________________ Rover P2

Anyone tried Perspex/Polycarbonate/ etc ?
Guess that the thickness would need to be increased to maintain stiffness then we have a really heavy item?
Also scratching maybe an issue from wipers...
Cheers

Cant comment about the legal issue, but Lexan is used quite often for windscreens. a coating on it makes it scratch resistant. Biggest problem is making sure that the coated side points outwards... |

I circulated an email to marine window makers (I am in the boat business) and the ones to come back have said that they are concerned about the stiffness of polycarbonate for a screen so high/wide...
Think we may just fit the std toughened second hand one we have found (with some wiper scratches - how to remove?) and begin to look for a spare before it breaks again!
Cheers

No disrespect to the companies you have contacted, but lexan is used in windscreens of quite large vehicles.
If you watch newsreels, you can quite often see things like buses, militarty vehicles having bricks and stones bounce off their windscreens...they are almost always Lexan. I was told by a supplier once that it was also relatively bulletproof...so I cant really see stiffness being a problem.
I used it quite often before I retired for things such as machinery guards, these were often quite large also.
In spite of the fact that I am postively inclined towards it, Im not sure that I personally would use it though. |

As a little addition to this, some helicopters use lexan as well as some race cars. Helicopters sometimes use a mylar film on the outside of the Lexan, to prevent scratching.
There is another manufacturer of this as well, but I cant for the life of me remember their trade name for the same stuff! |

Well think this should be the last post on this thread, we drove 200 miles up to Tipshelf (hadn't heard of it either, near Mansfield) where a kind gent had a spare screen, it even turned out to be a laminated one.
So all's well that... unless RAC Autoglass can't fit it...! seems a bit thicker than the toughened screen.
This guy in Tibshelf was a real old collector, at guess would say he had at least 1 dozen Ariel Arrows/Leaders etc plus a few 3 wheeled cars plus 3 Bedford CA - If only I had the space and time I would be there too! _________________
