HI all,

I need to get a selection of Phillips head raised countersunk self tappers, preferably in stainless steel. I can get them from the States, but someone must sell them over here!

I've tried Namrick, the usual DIY sheds and Googling, but no luck.

Help!

Ian

Try screwfix
http://www.screwfix.com/cats/A231359/Screws/Self-Tapping-Screws&cm_mmc=Google-_-Screws-_-Self%20Tapper%20Screws-_-self-tappers?P=P&gclid=CLiWt_-CuZUCFRdatAod8S81Xg&source=aw

Don't forget if you are using them in cars that Stainless can react with steel as much as steel and aluminium

Thanks, but they don't do raised contersunk. I understand your comment about stainless, but the trim pieces they'll be attaching are stainless themselves.

Why phillips, and not posidrive? If I may ask?

I would really prefer to fit pozidrive myself and have recently found a useful source of stainless steel hardware. Yacht Chandlers, if you live near one you may be surprised at the stock of SS fixings they carry.

pigtin, being absolutely pedantic, quite often its not A2 class stainless that Ships Chandlers sell, but A4 acid resistant. Its still in the stainless group, but has higher corrosion resistance.

Duh! doesn't that make them better then, or have I missed a point somewhere? Wink

In my opinion, it makes them far better, but they are also a little more expensive...

I don't mind pizi where they can't be seen, but for interior and exterior trim pieces (especially in my eye line) they're just wrong for a '50s Yank.

How many people would spot the difference? I usually don't until I try to use the wrong screwdriver. Then technology is brought to bear by grinding the tip off a Phillips driver when using it on a pozi... And swearing a lot when I need it for a Phillips. Or is it the other way around?
Should know, I used to teach people these things... but ze little grey cells are not what they used to be. Crying or Very sad

If you don't have any luck give me the size and I will look here, the frenchies use and sell more Philips than posidrive especially in the body work shops
We cant bemoan imfinlay, we are just as fussy posidrive does look different and if its not right, its just not right

I always use a local "industrial fastener" wholesaler who have an on line catalogue at

http://www.applegate.co.uk/catalogueonline/cla/1179071-1-2-c.htm?view=CATALOGUE_86049

but it appears you have to order by phone.

Might be worth a try.
