This arrived yesterday, probably only of interest to southern members..
--------------------------
Hello,
I wonder if you can help me - we are doing a video shoot (internal) for
Burberry (the fashion label) in North London next Tuesday 16th - and we are
looking for an a classic car such as an Austin Healey Sprite, or an MG MGB
Roadster - that kind of thing. We have pretty much 0 budget but would be
able to give say up to 100 quid in cash to shoot it for a couple of hours in
the morning. We would need it parked - not running.
Do you have any advise on where to look? Or anyone friendly enough to
consider this?
Best,
Nina holian

I used to get this all the time...."Low Budget" film. I used to charge between £300 - £450 for a days work. But you would be surprised how many people do it for nothing _________________ 1964 International Harvester |

Big company like Burberry and they dont have any cash for the hire of a car to promote their products.......and do you think they would give you a free Burberry jacket worth £300 or even one of their Double Breasted Trench Coats at a mere £1095 for your efforts....I think not.
I know what I would tell them _________________ ROVER

I got £300 from the BBC for a day at the old handley page aerodrome with a 70s Formula 3 car in 1982
I got £300 for a day outside Kings College Cambridge with 6 fashion models and a Citroen light 15 for a magazine shoot for Daks Simpsons of Piccadilly in 1987
So given 20 + years of inflation those rates you mention are very mean. _________________ Richard |

Hi
There are a number of companies offering vehicles commercially for this sort of thing.
It might be useful if we could find out what the going rate is, so that members could avoid being ripped off by people trying to do it "on the cheap" while being reasonably competitive.
looking at websites they don't seem to quote prices for this sort of work, although they do quote for wedding jobs. |

Hi
My mate hires cars out for the public to drive, classic and vintage ones, could try to find some rough prices, but there is a guild to classic car hiring.
Cheers

I was paid 500quid for my Doberman to take part in the "Prime" dog food commercial 20yrs ago where they were bounding over a field I do think Burberry would have a "good budget" to get their product out there, a new company just starting out maybe!! _________________ www.OldFrenchCars.com

| I get requests like this all the time with my G-Wiz electric car. Up until now I've been happy enough to do it free of charge, but I really ought to start charging - especially when a couple of companies have borrowed the car for a week at a time. |

I have heard some horror stories regarding damage to cars while being used by film/photo companies.
Such as..... 1950's American convertible which was returned to the owner with stiletto heel holes in the seats
Whenever any of my cars are used, I insist on supervising and instruct the cameraman/director how and where a model can place her bottom
You only have to look at some of the pop video's and see how they climb all over a car, they don't care and I certainly would not let them have the car for nothing. Remember, to them it is a "prop", to you you, it is your pride and joy and perhaps years of blood sweat and tears. _________________ 1964 International Harvester |
